15.scouten

This Scouten stone is somewhat perplexing in that it marks the resting spot of Charles Edgar Scouten, Sr.'s wife and two of his children who died very young, but not him. Plus, almost as an afterthought, Theresa Meyer is included.

Now, I'm assuming that it's Theresia Kneud Meyer, the matriarch who immigrated to the States with Grace and, possibly, Johann's younger brother, Charles H. Meyer, because the other Theresa Caroline Meyer, Johann's sister, married Joseph Pennington, and had three children.

Relatives have told me that Theresia was the first to be interred at the family plot, and she doesn't show up on any of the other stones, so I'm left thinking that this is where they put her. True, Elizabeth Rosetta Meyer, the Elizabeth on this stone, is her daughter, but Theresia died in 1866 long before this stone was engraved.

And where is Charles Edgar buried? Genealogical mysteries.
