William Guy's Birth Certificate

This is the official transcript from the original registry of births in Dublin—my son obtained it as part of his petition to become an Irish citizen. Just to make things a little clearer, William was born in the village of Crannogue, District of Clonavaddy, in the Superintendent Registrar's District of Dungannon, in the County of Tyrone. Ireland is a real palimpsest of Irish districts laid over by English districts, parishes, and on and on. Trying to keep them straight is a nightmare, and no doubt contributes to the confusion of place names in my ancestors personal recollections. For instance, Crannogue is also in the Pomeroy Parish, either the civil one, the Roman Catholic one, the Church of Ireland one, or the Presbyterian...take your choice!
